We are currently looking to fill the following positions:

Junior Geophysicist to Senior Geophysicist Manager Positions

Wheat Ridge, CO (Corporate) or Rockville, MD (Branch) Offices

Olson Engineering, Inc.

Experience:  0 (Junior) to 7+ years (Senior) in geophysics for engineering and environmental applications

Compensation:  $70K to $140K per year depending on experience/qualifications

Minimum Education:  Bachelors in Geophysics or Geology with Geophysics (graduate degree preferred)

Olson Engineering has openings ranging from Junior Geophysicist to a Senior Geophysicist to manage and grow our Geophysics consulting services.  The ideal candidates will have education and experience in conducting and managing geophysical surveys for near‐surface engineering and environmental projects. Experience and/or interest in conducting nondestructive evaluation (NDE) investigations of bridges, buildings, dams, tunnels, pavements, foundations, and other civil structures is also desirable. Olson Engineering, Inc. is a leader in geophysical and nondestructive evaluation services for bridge, dam, building, tunnel, pavement and other infrastructure projects.  Our geophysical group conducts a variety of survey methods to meet client’s needs. Our subsidiary, Olson Instruments, Inc., manufactures instruments for nondestructive evaluation for civil engineering projects.  These positions will be approximately 25% to 50% in the field with both local and out of town geophysics and NDE project work.  The ability to travel nationally and internationally for up to 2 to 3 weeks at a time on projects is required.   Strong geophysical data collection, data analysis and verbal and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to work individually and manage our geophysics group. Must be willing to work occasional nights/weekends and have a clean driving record and ability to pass drug tests when required by clients for project sitework.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Geophysics, Geology, or related Geoscience Degree – graduate degree preferred
  • 0 to 7+ years of experience in geophysics for engineering and environmental projects
  • Must be able to travel nationally and internationally
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in difficult conditions
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift 70 lbs
  • Professional Geologist or Professional Geophysicist (California) desired or ability to obtain licensure quickly

Duties include:

  • Geophysical and NDE data acquisition
  • Geophysical and NDE data processing and analysis
  • Preparation and review of reports
  • Preparation and review of proposals
  • Conduct/Manage Geophysics Projects

Desirable educational or work experience:

  • Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) & Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT)
  • Crosshole and Downhole (VSP) Seismic Profiling
  • Magnetometry
  • Electromagnetic methods (TDEM/FDEM)
  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
  • Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) & vertical electrical soundings (VES), Differential GPS and GNSS

Desirable Software Experience and Other Skillsets:

  • Seismic Refraction Tomography processing using Rayfract or other software packages Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves using SurfSeis/ParkSeis for processing
  • GIS (either ArcGIS or QGIS)
  • Generating Figures using Surfer or other software to present to clients.
  • Basic understanding of various geophysical instruments, circuits, and electronics, and the ability to troubleshoot them
  • Basic understanding of digital signal processing
  • Geosoft Oasis Montaj for general geophysical data processing
  • MS Word and Excel Spreadsheets

 

 

 

Staff/Project Engineer

Wheat Ridge, CO (Corporate) and Rockville, MD (Branch) Offices

Experience:  0 to 5 years

Compensation:  $65K to $80K per year

Minimum Education:  Bachelors in Structural, Geotechnical or Materials Engineering (Graduate Degree Preferred)

Olson Engineering has openings in our Wheat Ridge, Colorado corporate office and our Rockville, Maryland branch office for Staff/Project Engineers with backgrounds in Structural, Geotechnical or Materials Engineering with strong interest in conducting nondestructive evaluation (NDE) investigations of bridges, buildings, dams, tunnels, pavements, foundations, and other civil structures. Olson Engineering, Inc. is a leader in nondestructive evaluation and geophysical services for civil structural and infrastructure projects.  We cross-train our professionals to work on NDE and engineering geophysics projects.  Our subsidiary, Olson Instruments, Inc., manufactures instruments for nondestructive evaluation for civil engineering projects.  This position will be approximately 25 to 40% in the field with both local and out of town project work.  The ability to travel nationally and internationally for longer times of up to 2 to 3 weeks at a time on projects is occasionally required.  Strong data collection, data analysis and verbal and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to work individually and as a part of a team. Must be willing to work occasional nights/weekends, and travel on short notice. Must have a clean driving record and ability to pass drug tests when required by clients for project sitework.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Structural, Geotechnical, and/or Materials Engineering with Graduate Degree a plus
  • Must be able to travel extensively nationally and internationally
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in difficult conditions
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift 70 lbs
  • EIT registration – PE registration is a plus

Duties include:

  • NDE and Geophysical data acquisition
  • NDE and Geophysical data processing and analysis

Desirable educational or work experience:

  • NDE methods such as Impact Echo, Sonic Echo, Surface Waves, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity/Echo, Ground Penetrating Radar, Corrosion, Infrared Thermography, Pile Integrity, Structural Health Monitoring
  • AutoCAD/Solidworks
  • AASHTO/NHI/Bridge design/load rating/inspection experience/certifications
  • Finite element modeling experience
  • Strong engineering mechanics/materials background
